Hummingbird Scientific

Applications due by April 30, 2024

Hummingbird Scientific is adding an additional Applications Scientist to its team of scientists to support our fast-growing global customer base with their in-situ liquid and gas holder microscopy research.

This position would work closely with the customer as a technical expert in in-situ liquid/gas cell microscopy, from the first discussions about suitable hardware and product training to performing in-situ microscopy experiments. Working with our engineering department to develop next-generation environmental cell hardware and methods is another important responsibility of this position. Finally, the Applications Scientist will lead our technical marketing efforts by generating scientific content and presenting it to the microscopy community.

We have two TEMs in Hummingbird Scientific’s in-house TEM lab where we also often host visiting scientists. There are several new in-situ TEM product development projects ongoing, so there will be many opportunities to test and work with our new in-situ microscope products and take the lead in interesting research collaborations.

We seek candidates with a curious mind and a hands-on attitude towards science and microscopy. This position requires one to wear different hats, so multitasking and being a strong planner is essential.

Key Qualifications:

  • In a research setting, having hands-on experience with in-situ TEM of liquid cell or gas cell sample holders.
  • Ability to write, professionally visualize, and present technical and scientific content
  • Comfortable at supporting and dealing with customers and collaborators in different countries
  • Experience with TEM, SEM, or X-ray microscopy

Education:

  • MS or Ph.D. in Science or Engineering with a focus on Transmission Electron Microscopy

Optional Qualifications:

  • Industry experience in applications, sales, or marketing
  • Broad background in materials science, chemistry, or solid-state physics
  • Involvement in developing hardware or experimental setups for electron/x-ray microscopy

Compensation: Hummingbird Scientific offers a generous compensation package based on experience and proven capabilities. Benefits include paid vacation, holidays, sick time, medical and dental benefits, and a company 401(k) plan, as well as a seasonal CSA box.
